Welcome to Fonográfia

This web site is unofficially dedicated to the Hungarian rock music group Fonográf. Founded in the early seventies and active till the middle of the eighties, Fonográf was not just one of the most influential formations on the national rock music scene but also a productive workshop of art and an 'institution' that can rightfully be considered to belong to the modern cultral heritage of Hungary. Featuring sixties cult heroes Levente Szörényi, János Bródy and László Tolcsvay as well as revered 'craftsmen' Mihály Móricz, Oszkár Németh and Szabolcs Szörényi the group produced a number of world-class albums for themselves and worked together regularly with other top performers, most notably singer Zsuzsa Koncz. Arguably the best known work of Hungarian rock music, rock opera István, a király (Stephen, the King) was also created in the Fonográf workshop.

This is a Hungarian site and I do not plan to release an English version any time soon. However I do believe that the music of Fonográf could be cherished all over the world where rock, country and the blues are appreciated. Look for their albums in the Diszkográfia section and see if you can find them in a web music shop. And their English language LP Country and Eastern, released in the very late seventies and early eighties in several Western European countries might just be avaiable in a second hand music shop in your neighborhood....

Have fun with Fonográf and Fonográfia!
